The state capitol of Ohio, Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. A center for high-tech companies, science, insurance, real estate, and retail banking, Columbus is crossroad of commerce and business. Situated in the center of the state at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, Columbus became the official state capitol in 1816.
The Statehouse is a must-see while in Columbus. So is the world-renowned Columbus Zoo where Jack Hannah got his start. The Ohio State University campus and student body both make up sizeable parts of the city and population, respectively. A heavy German influence still exists today and is best seen in the German Village.
The Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden along with COSI (science and learning center) are excellent educational spots to visit with students, as is the Ohio Historical Society.
