As of December 2017, Precious Cargo has installed Electronic Logging Devices (ELD’s) on all motor coaches and school buses in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Part 395, 49 CFR 395.8(a). The ELD Rule is the latest safety initiative that was enacted by the FMCSA on December 15, 2015.
Specifically to us, the ELD Rule does not change how we do business. For years, drivers have been recording their hours of service through a traditional paper log, which was then submitted to our Compliance Officer at the conclusion of a trip. The ELD’s achieve the same purpose, but the method of record-keeping is updated to reflect the changing technology.
You may have recently been on one of our buses and seen a tablet (similar to an iPad) mounted in the center of the dash. These tablets relay important information to the driver that pertains to their hours of service status. All information is then transferred, by the minute, to computers at Precious Cargo headquarters. The information is visible to key personnel at the office, including our Compliance Officer, to ensure that we continue to get you to your destination safely, just as we have for the last 25 years.
